The Center for Allied and Unified Sport and Exercise (CAUSE) at Daemen College provides opportunities for people with disabilities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and experience the camaraderie and sportsmanship that comes with athletics participation. In addition, CAUSE provides a supported venue for caregivers to access athletic-based care, participate in health and wellness programs, or simply experience the joy of watching a loved one compete.

The CAUSE Director will set the direction for the Center with a vision that aligns with the College's mission and builds on institutional strengths. As a leader in the community, the Director will lead program growth and expansion, assess results over time, and promote program successes.

CAUSE is overseen by a leadership team comprised of representatives from Athletics, Social Work, Education/Applied Behavior Analysis, Grants, and Saffrin Center. The Director reports to the Director of the Saffrin Center for Sustainability and Civic Engagement and is assisted by a part time coordinator and student staff.

Key Responsibilities:

Administration

  • Direct Supervision of CAUSE Coordinator and student workers
  • Oversee activities of Leadership Team
  • Liaison between CAUSE & Service Learning Instructor, Saffrin Center, Athletics, & Business Office
  • Manage interactions with institutional and noninstitutional partners
  • Oversight of evaluation process, including data collection, analysis, and dissemination (with leadership team)
  • Budget oversight, monitoring, and projections
    • Serve as liaison with Business Office, Athletics, Grants, and Leadership Team
    • Process all purchase requisitions
    • Determine if budget adjustments are needed and work with Grant office to submit revised budget requests to funders

Program Operations

  • Oversight of all day-to-day activities for CAUSE; including staffing
  • Handle or provide oversight of any issues with participants and/or families
  • Attend bi-weekly sessions and special events (CAUSE program sessions run on Sundays from 12:30p-5p and Wednesdays from 5:30p-10p)
  • Student Training & Orientation- in conjunction with leadership team, athletics, instructor, Saffrin Center
  • Oversee development of policies and procedures manual in collaboration with Coordinator

Communications

  • Oversight of website and promotional activities
  • Develop Communications Strategy with on campus partners
  • Write newsletters, annual reports, and other external communication
  • Serve as spokesperson for media relations

Development

  • Identify and develop best strategy for program expansion
  • Community Outreach - strengthen current and develop new partnerships
  • Expand opportunities for internal and external partners
  • Work with institutional staff to generate new funding streams and support grant writing activities
  • Prepare program and budget reports for funders

 

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree is required, a master's degree strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with non-profit organizations in WNY. Work experience in higher education and/or programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities highly desirable.
  • Solid experience with procuring funding and creating and managing budgets.
  • Experience with program development and management.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to effectively engage with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work independently, anticipate project needs, discern work priorities among multiple concurrent assignments, and meet deadlines with little to no supervision.
  • Ability to evaluate programs and initiatives and assess outcomes for continuous improvement.
  • Experience working with students and/or community volunteers.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; facility with Microsoft Office and Google software.
  • Strong personal commitment to the moral and ethical values of the Center and Daemen College, including collaborative relationship-building and problem-solving, and the human dignity of every person.

Additional Expectations:

  • The position is a temporary part time position through August, 2019, requiring up to 19 hours per week.  Continuation of the position will be dependent on results of fundraising activities.
  • The director is required to be present at all CAUSE sessions which are scheduled for the Spring 2019 semester on Sundays 12:30p-5:00p and Wednesdays 5:30p-10:00p.
  • CAUSE summer camps run for two weeks in June and two weeks in August from 8:30a-12:30p Monday thru Friday.
  • Some evening and weekend work e.g., special events, community meetings.
  • Engagement with related community collaborations and consortiums.
